Samsung has finally released the most talked and rumored Android phone of 2014. The Unpacked event in Barcelona was taken over by Samsung as it announced its flagship smartphone called the Galaxy S5. Design wise it offers nothing special and look similar to the Galaxy S4 from last year, but it offers several features that are totally new and not found on any other Galaxy handset.

Finger Print Scanner

The Galaxy S5 comes with a fingerprint sensor, which like iPhone 5S is integrated in the home button. Hopefully, Samsung has consulted with patent attorneys before copying the feature from Apple’s handset from last year. However, Unlike the iPhone 5s, the GS5’s sensor entails you to swipe over the home button, which surely does not sound as comfortable as the iPhone 5S.

Design

Samsung Galaxy S5 has nothing exciting as far as design is concerned and looks same as Galaxy S4, including the polymer body. However, the rear of the Galaxy S5 comes with a fresh new perforated feel. Color wise you can pick GS5 in four unique colors: Shimmery white, charcoal Black, copper Gold and Electric Blue.

So, if you were expecting Galaxy S5 in metallic look, then iPhone 5S is still a better option or wait for HTC M8, which will be unveiled soon.

Camera

Galaxy S5 offers a 16 mega pixel camera capable of recording videos in 4K resolution. The best part of the package is its ability to auto-focus in 0.3 seconds, which is currently fastest in the world. The new feature called “Selective Focus” included with the camera allows a user to capture images with a depth of field effect.

iPhone 5S is definitely not as fast as GS5 as far as the auto-focus is concerned, but quality of image and capability to record in low light will decide the ultimate winner.

Processing

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is powered by Quad core processor clocked at 2.5GHz, and 2GB RAM will ensure all the games, and apps get ample room to work. The storage is standard and nothing especial besides 16 and 32GB options.

Waterproofing

Well, Galaxy S5 is a sure winner in the category as it has been IP67-rated, which implies you can safely take your phone one meter inside water for up to 30 minutes.

Battery

The battery is standard with 2800mAh rating that promises talk time of 21 hours, standby time of 390 hours, 10 hours of browsing on 4G/LTE. The reality is mostly different from the specs sheet as users realize the actual strength only after using it.

Verdict

Samsung Galaxy S5 is better than iPhone 5S in terms of add-ons as you can benefit from the company’s effort to bring health and wellness right to your phone. The Samsung S Health 3.0 fitness tracker can monitor heart rate and other physical attributes using inbuilt hardware dedicated for the purpose.
